The 65th edition of the Return to Asturias will take place from tomorrow Friday to next Sunday with the participation of fifteen teams – nine proteams, four continentals, one cycling team and the Movistar team (WT)-, which will face three stages of the longest test in recent years with a 513 kilometer route, where the ascent to the Alto del Acebo is maintained, with ramps bordering on 20 percent uneven, and offers the novelty of the ascension to Tenebreo.
The first stage, of 182 kilometers, starts this Friday in Oviedo arriving at Pola de Lena, with a classic route through the mining valleys with a leg-breaking winding route, with five points up for grabs, along with these, La Colladona, first category.
On Saturday the second stage will take place starting from Candás and ending in Cangas del Narcea, 183 kilometers long, with a new climb to Alto del Acebo, with a descent and ending in Cangas del Narcea, with ramps bordering of 20 percent uneven in some places, and the inclusion of the “El Vallado” pass, which, although its distance is short (3.5 kilometers), offers an average descent of 10 percent.
The third and final stage, traditionally shorter, repeats the start in Cangas del Narcea and the finish line in Oviedo, and extends to 149 kilometers with three scoring ports, with the addition of Alto del Tenebreo, which does not climb to slope of los valles del Oso since 2010, and replaces El Violeo, with its traditional finish on Calle Uría.
The Asturian round will come together in Movistar Team (WT)in proteams Caja Rural, Burgos, Kern Pharma, Euskaltel, Eolo-Kometa (ITA), Novo Nordisk (USA), Bolton Equities Black Spoke (NZL), Total Energies (FRA) and Q36.5 Cycling (SUI)and the continentals Efapel (POR), Aviludo (POR), Hipermarche Hiper Europa and Golbal 6 (NZL) and the cycling team NSJBI Victoria Sports (PHI).
In the absence of confirmation of the participants that will take place this afternoon, pre-registration includes the Colombian Ivan Ramiro Sosawinner of the Vuelta Asturias in the last edition under the leadership of Movistar, a team that will attend the appointment of the squad that will compete in the Giro.
Also, in the list of cyclists, the runner Pierre Latour of Total Energies, winner of the stage ending in Naranco, in addition to the victories achieved in the grand tours, and the Italian. Gianluca Brambillafrom Q36.5, winner of stages at the Giro and Vuelta a España.
Alberto Contador’s team, Aeolus-Cometpresents Lorenzo Fortunato to his team, winner last year of the queen stage of the Asturian event by winning Alto del Acebo.
In the 2022 edition, the Colombian Ivan Ramiro Sosa (Movistar) is the winner of the 64th edition of the Tour of Asturias, followed by Lorenzo Fortunato and Nicolas Edetsecond and third place, respectively.
