Cartagena Bay is once again the epicenter of an important maritime event this weekend. In this case it is a sporting event, but also a cultural and tourist event. The traditional sailing and marine arts festival started yesterday with the reception and placement of the various boats and will reach its peak next weekend. In the harbour, the whole festival will be a great exhibition of classic and vintage boats. Not only will ships from Cartagena and the Mar Menor be on display, but they have also arrived from other places such as Galicia, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands and the Basque Country, places where they still sail in this traditional way. The welcome ceremony will take place today at 10 a.m. and free sailing will be available from 12:30 p.m. At 6:30 PM, there is a day of traditional and historic boats at the Maritime Museum, which will conclude with a Spanish wine around 8:00 PM. The match itself will start tomorrow. At noon, the classic boats lower their sails. Half an hour later, they do that for a maximum of 42 spans. At two o’clock in the afternoon the 21 spans come out. At the end of the regattas, the sailors will enjoy a sea kettle and in the afternoon they will perform cultural activities. On Sunday, the last day, the regattas will be closed, according to the same schedule as on Saturday. At eight o’clock in the evening, the trophies will be presented for an event that expects a crowd of visitors in what the organizers consider to be ‘a floating museum on the pier’.
