Carlos Sainz he doesn’t have a day at F1 Baku GP. in the same way that he was better than Charles Leclerc throughout last weekend in Australia, this time the Spaniard couldn’t get the most out of his car uncomfortable with his Ferrari on the track Azerbaijan.
The Spanish rider did not feel confident from the start of Free Practice 1, and that, in a Grand Prix format with a free practice session, without much room for improvement, and moreover, on a track that the walls were so close where it was so important to trust the car, made him pull away from his teammate Leclerc, who took pole position.
“Today was a very difficult day for me. I haven’t felt confident in the car since the start of free practice and obviously in this format there is no time to change and try different settings.”he commented.
Already in qualifying, due to a lack of confidence he had to spend another set of new tires and he reached Q3 with one less than the other favourites. “Qualifying was also a bit of a disaster because we had to use two new sets of tires in Q1 and that only left me with one new set for Q3.”explained
“In general, I didn’t get a rhythm in two sessions, it’s my fault”he added, without hiding and looking ahead, wanting to fight to get back to Sunday’s race and improve his sensations on the day independent of the sprint this Saturday.
“On Sunday I will fight from fourth position and tonight we will focus on how we can improve the sensations in the car”, commented Carlos before ending his statement with congratulations for his colleague: “Congratulations to Charles on a great lap and taking pole position for the team.”
