British Claire Steels (Israel-Premier Tech Roland) won this Saturday the fourth edition of reVoltathe one-day women’s event associated with the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which starts and ends in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
steels attacked the climb of the Alt de la Creu d’Aragall, a first-class climb 32 kilometers from the finish, and crossed the finish line alone before the German Clara Koppenburg (Team Cofidis), winner of the last edition, and Australian Josie Talbot, also from Cofidis, who finished third in the sprint. The most important event in the women’s cycling calendar in Catalonia returns to Sant Cugat del Vallès for the third year in a rowwith a 126.9-kilometer route that includes the mountain passes of Coll de Castellbisbal (second category), Port d’Ullastrell and Alt de la Creu d’Aragall, both first category.
This year the trial jumps onto the UCI international calendar in category 1.1.which affected both route demand and the lineup of participants.
The rest of the day was led by a large group of nine cyclists from teams such as Team Cofidis, Massi Tactic, Israel-Premier Tech Roland or Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi, among others.
But in the Alt de la Creu d’Aragall breakaways saw Koppenburg and Steels, two of the favourites, join the breakaway and they imposed their law. It was the British who attacked on the ramps of the last port of the race, surprising the Germans, who were unable to respond.
The cyclist of Israel-Premier Tech Roland was daring in the descent and, little by little, gained ground in Koppenburg, enjoying advantages of more than 30 seconds.
Despite his pursuer’s efforts to chase him down, Steels went solo to the final victory to become reVolta’s fourth winnerafter the victories of Koppenburg in 2022, of Norwegian Katrine Aalerud (Movistar Team) in 2021 and of American Lauren Stephens (Cylance Pro Cycling) in 2018.
