Strong gusts of wind brought the Classic Sailing to life

Date:

With strong gusts of wind, the first departures of the classic boats began, in the spirit of tradition and time. They were joined by the ‘Pascual Flores’, which, with forty guests on board, formed a fleet reminiscent of the early years of the 20th century. A frenzied activity in the early hours of the morning predicted a day full of regattas in Cartagena, so to speak. After the skippers’ meeting, about 10 boats went to sea, schooners, sloops, kechts and all kinds of sails gathered in the bay of Cartagena. I don’t know, I had never seen such a show in the port area of Cartagena. The show continues today, the last day of a show that started on Friday. The Classic Sailing Foundation of Spain was established some time ago with the aim of this nautical modality, the care and maintenance of its boats and the training of professionals who resume work such as carpentry on the riverbank or the exquisite care they need for to promote these boats. This initiative has been supported from minute one and the programming of regattas with this type of boat has grown in several coastal cities in Spain, including Cartagena, which will host this year a sporting, cultural and touristic event full of maritime flavor, such as the Cartagena Vela Clásica 2023, an event that will create a floating museum in the harbor from April 28 to 30 and an incomparable spectacle at sea. This year is the seventh edition of this nautical event. T he organization has managed to plan activities on the pier that complement this show, such as exhibitions, music, lectures and the dissemination of this unique heritage, which can be enjoyed thanks to the commitment and maintenance of shipowners and associations.
