Burgos won again on Monday after four games without a draw, against Villarreal B (1-0) thanks to Artola’s early goal, keeping alive the dream of reaching the promotion zone.
This victory leaves Burgos 6 points behind the last ‘play off’ positions occupied by Albacete, while Villarreal B are six points ahead of Málaga, who are aging in relegation.
Burgos started by squeezing the rival, with three corner kicks in five minutes, and in the 6th minute Artola made it 1-0 with a real goal. The Basque striker, back in possession after several days away, received a cross from Areso from below and finished with his heel at the near post. The ball slipped under the feet of the defenders and entered the far post.
Villarreal B took a step forward after Burgos’ goal and took the ball, but the local team showed their best defensive version.
The referee disallowed the goal for offside by Villarreal B forward Fer Niño, who was alone against Caro, but received the pass in an illegal position.
After the break, Burgos tried to close the game and in one against Bermejo he could have scored the second, but his shot crossed the left of the visitor’s goal. Artola then tried a pass from Fran García, but the ball went over the crossbar.
Burgos tried to find a surprise on the counter and again, they pressed every ball and had a very clear chance, after an error by Mbacke, who tried to clear a headed ball and on the run Castel won the game but shoot wide.
Despite the fact that they had clear opportunities, Burgos did not know how anything would materialize and in the final phase of the rivalry they dedicated themselves to defending their advantage.
Julián Calero accepted the result as good and removed two forward players to give consistency to the black and white team with Gaspar Campos and Mumo. He then introduced Goldar, who saved his team in extra time, which lasted six minutes, after a shot from Villarreal, and then Grego Sierra prevented a goal almost on the finish line.
The game got crazy in the last two minutes. Villarreal B believed it was possible to get a point from El Plantío and Burgos added the second, but the clearest chance was the last one, a play by Lozano that rattled the Burgos defense and ended up in a corner.
