He International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the donation of $10.4 millionwhich comes from the excess budget of the organization of Beijing Winter Olympics 2022to support the legacy of these Games in the host country.
The donation is intended to support the development of sport in China, in particular, the continued participation of 346 million Chinese in winter sports, with a special focus on youth.
Previously, the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee revealed that it achieved a surplus of $52 million from the organization’s budget of $2.29 billion.
IOC President Thomas Bach did not hesitate to congratulate the Organizing Committee “for a financial surplus even in these very difficult circumstances – the covid pandemic.”
In recognition of all these achievements, the IOC will contribute its share of the surplus to support the legacy of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Young people doing winter sports benefit greatly.”
The Chinese Olympic Committee informed the IOC that “all venues for Beijing 2022 have reopened since the end of the Games and there are plans to ensure their use throughout the year.”
