Alcaraz, for world number 1: “I want to play in Rome”

The million dollar question had a quick answer once Carlos Alcaraz attended the official press conference for his victory Jan Lennard Struff in the final of the Mutua Madrid Open, by 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3.

Will you play in Rome? “Well, I’ve never played in Rome so it will be my first time playing in Rome. I really want to play there. I missed it last year and since I was a kid I wanted to be there.”

Playing this Masters 1000 ATP, which is coming up, from May 5 to 21, the Murcian is making sure to regain the world number one ranking before Roland Garros. It was enough for him to play one match at the Foro Italico, even if he lost, to be relieved Novak Djokovicunprecedented in Madrid and must defend the crown in Italy.

This Monday the transalpine competition will be raffled. Alcaraz will enter the competition on Friday 12th or Saturday 13th May.

“I am ambitious and we are going for Rome,” he declared.
