Alonso sends another ‘message’ to Ocon: “I’m always his first target”

Date:

Fernando Alonso is ‘on fire’. He is having fun on the track, he again has a competitive and fast car that allows him to opt for a podium finish in every race and he feels at home with his new team, Aston Martin. It is also noticeable outside of him. The Asturian always forces the messages he wants to convey in his statements. And in this Miami GP, he directly or indirectly remembered Alpine and his former teammate Esteban Ocon up to three times. The last of them, in statements to ‘Sky Sports’. There, he praised the great camaraderie between himself and Lance Stroll at Aston Martin and compared it to the opposite experience he had with Esteban at Alpine.especially last year, where the Frenchman closed him aggressively on several occasions on the track.

“Lance is a driver who thinks like a teammate, as we have already seen in Baku. Last year, the opposite happened to me. I am always the first target of my teammate and it is clear that this is something that is not greatly benefits the team”, Fernando Alonso declared about Lance referring to what was seen in Baku. There, Stroll warned over the radio that he would not attack Alonso despite circling him and that “we are playing the same game”.

In the same race, Alonso alerted his engineers to share their brake distribution with Stroll so it could help Lance. And in Miami, Alonso said that in the final laps he was following the race on screens as he drove to see if Lance could get into the points. Colleagues with a common goal: the good of the team.

Some ‘zascas’ from Alonso to Alpine and Ocon in Miami

These statements are not the only ones made by Fernando Alonso in relation to Alpine. The ‘show’ started in Free Practice 2, when Esteban Ocon didn’t go far and broke a lap launched by Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard responded with laughter on the radio and a resounding “free practice is his moment”, making it clear that the Alpine was far from fighting his Aston Martin in the race.

There was also an indirect ‘message’ in his remarks after the classification. When he got out of the car, in the interviews at the foot of the track as the second classified in the ‘qualy’, the man from Oviedo recalled again the lack of confidence he felt in the Alpine: “I’ve always been motivated, working hard and…maybe the team behind me (referring to Alpine) didn’t believe in my performance or ability to tune the car and continue. And then, well, I’ve never had a car as fast as it is now. I didn’t change, Aston Martin changed me,” finished, extolling his current team and with clear criticism of Alpine.

This is not the first time that Alonso has remembered the French. In a recent newspaper interview ‘L’Equipe’ he joked about that Alpine I will not sign Adrian Newley due to his advanced age, in clear reference to the fact that the French only offered him a one-year contract last year due to the age of the man from Oviedo. For this reason, after his move to Aston Martin, he stressed that the green team “doesn’t look at the Passport”. In addition, from the first day, he made it clear that he joined Aston Martin because he saw “an ambition” in the team that he did not see in the French team.

He remembered that too “in other teams” the fifth and sixth positions were celebrated and in Aston Martin they were not satisfied with those positions because his goal is to win races and the title in the near future.
