Roland Garros will give millions to players

Roland Garros announced Wednesday that it will increase 6.8% economic prize for tennis players compared to 2019, its last edition was not affected by covid: total 43.6 million euros, of which 2.2 million will go to the winners of the men’s and women’s singles tournaments.

In the last two editions, the economic endowment dropped in line with the decline in income due to low public absence due to restrictions imposed by the French Government to stop the pandemic.

The smallest increase this year, where the edition will be held May 22 to June 5, will be made into individual squares, which will increase only by one 1.43% prizes, after rising 35% in 2019 and 3% last year.

The finalists will earn half as much as the winners, and the semi-finalists € 600,000. For reaching the quarterfinals, 380,000 euros are guaranteed and 220,000 for playing in the round of 16. Tennis players who fail in the first round will leave Paris with 62,000 euros.

Doubles draw will increase endowment by 6.0%with 580,000 euros for the winners and 290,000 for the finalists.

The largest increase was recordedn the provision for the previous phase, with an improvement of 66% compared to 2019 and 30% compared to 2021.

Play the first round of qualifying rwill contribute 14,000 euros and achieve a place in the final table, which means to overcome three stages, 31,000 euros.

“The increase in prizes for the first rounds and previous stages is intended to help players who have suffered the most from the consequences of the covid-19 pandemic,” the organization said in a statement.
