Jordan Spieth wrist injury a few days before the PGA Championship

Date:

Jordan Spieth retired this Monday from AT&T Byron Nelson this week after being announced a wrist injury. Spieth said the injury requires evaluation “weekly,” which is doubting his presence at the PGA Championship next week at Oak Hill. This is the title missing to complete the Grand Slam.

As the PGA Tour announced, Spieth experienced severe pain in his left wrist over the weekend and was told by doctors that the injury “requires rest and limited movement.”

The Byron Nelson, played every year near Dallas, is Spieth’s home tournament. “AT&T Byron Nelson means the world to me and I couldn’t miss it this week.”Spieth wrote in a social media post. “Playing in front of family and friends in Dallas was one of the highlights of my year. The tournament organizers and volunteers were second to none,” he added.

However, the player is clear about his goal. “I am focused on healing myself as soon as possible and I will have to evaluate my recovery week by week,” added the former world number one. “Thanks to the medical professionals who supported me over the weekend,” he promised.

Spieth is a three-time majors champion. He won the 2015 Masters, 2015 US Open and 2017 British Open. He has won just two tournaments since then and none since April 2022.
