Alejandro Blanco met with the Qatar Olympic Committee

The Spanish Olympic Committee and the Qatar Olympic Committee strengthened their collaboration agreement with the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding. He President of the COE, Alejandro Blancoand the QOC Chairman HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thaniformalized this agreement, which has been in force since 2011, in a ceremony at the Ali Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Arena in Doha, which currently hosts the IJF World Judo Championships.

At the event, the COE president was happy to be “here in Qatar. I congratulate Qatar for its incredible efforts to promote the development of sports at such a rapid pace. This is the reason why the international community continues to praise Qatar’s sports scene. We are happy to have signed this Memorandum of Understanding in 2011 and are excited about the renewal that allows us to work together to benefit our athletes, coaches and the sport in general. We really appreciate Qatar’s continued efforts to improve the level in sports.”

In addition, the President of the QOC stated that “we are committed to ensuring that our Memorandum of Understanding is activated through concrete actions to support all stakeholders of the Olympic Movement in our respective countries and obtain the vast experience we have accumulated over the years. Our relationship with the Spanish Olympic Committee has been strong under the leadership of President Blanco for the past 10 years, but we are confident that we can achieve more together.”

Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, the COE and the QOC commit to further engage in areas of mutual interest and to explore new forms of cooperation, such as:

• Exchange of best practices related to elite athlete development programs.

• Exchange of lessons learned from the experience of organizing international events.

• Collaborative development and delivery of legacy programs related to refugee athletes.

• Facilitation of pre-event training camps in both countries.
