The Italian Jannik Sinner premiered in his country’s tournament, the Rome Masters 1,000with a victory over the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakisthat he was down to two sets, for 6-1 and 6-4in just one hour.
With a loyal following, the eighth-seeded Sinner did not miss his date on the Italian clay and returned to action with an effective victory over Kokkinakis, who is partnered in doubles by his compatriot Nick Kyrgios at the 2022 ATP Finals.
Solid on his serve and aggressive from the baseline, the 21-year-old Italian, called up to fight Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in major tournaments as champions of the new generation of tennis, put Kokkinakis to rest in the first match in a resounding which is 6-1 thanks to two breaks.
In the second round, the Australian number 104 in the world reacted and made the game more complicated for a Sinner who, however, managed to break in the seventh game to get on track for victory without too much difficulty.
In the third round, Sinner will face the winner of the rivalry between the Argentine Sebastian Baez and the russian Alexander Shevchenko.
