Owen Davidson, winner of 13 doubles Grand Slams, has died

He Tennis Hall of Fame has stated that Owen Davidson passed away on Friday at the age of 79 Conroe (Texas, United States). The Australian tennis player gained fame mainly for his 13 titles in grand slam in doubles, 11 in mixed modality and two in men’s.

Davidson is associated with billie jean king to win eight of 11 mixed ‘majors’ in a career that spanned from the early 1960s to the mid-’70s. In 1967, Davidson became the third player in tennis history to win all four doubles Grand Slams combined in the same year.

“Our hearts are broken, but we find peace in life from the wonderful memories we share with our friend Davo,” tweeted Billie Jean King.

In doubles he won australia tomorrow in 1972, partnered with Ken Rosewall and the US Open from 1973 with John Newcombe. He won seven singles titles and his best Grand Slam result came in the semifinals of Wimbledon since 1966.
