LaLiga fined for spying on bars

Date:

As reported by genbeta.com, The league will have to pay a fine of 250,000 euros after the decision of the National High Court that it had irregularities in the use of its official app.

The fine was imposed in 2019, after the Spanish Agency for Data Protection (AEPD) conducted an ex officio investigation after learning that the LaLiga app used its microphone and the location of mobile phones to “identify fraud in unauthorized public establishments. “which will resend without paying the corresponding license to do so.

The AEPD indicated that LaLiga “should report its activity more explicitly” and LaLiga, in part, argued that “its actions are lawful and responsible at all times”.

Today, Justice dismissed LaLiga’s appeal and upheld the amount of the fine the body must pay, explaining that it was a figure proportional to revenue.
