The industry of the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) increased its activity in the first quarter of this year by 7.9% compared to the same period in 2021, after an increase of 4.6% in March.
The increase in the industrial production index between January and March was stronger in Bizkaia, 9.3%, than in Gipuzkoa (7.8%) and Álava (5.9%).
Capital goods, where the motor vehicle manufacturingthe locomotive construction and railway equipment and the aircraft construction or navy, attracted industrial activity, up 15%.
Consumer staples activity also grew significantly at 11.1%, a group that includes food processing and canning activities, manufacturing of cleaning and hygiene products and manufacturing of clothing.
Energy again showed a strong increase, at 12.8%, while that of semi-finished products (metallurgy, chemical industry and manufacture of rubber and plastic products) remained at 2.3% and that of consumer durables (manufacture of furniture and household appliances, among others). only 0.3%.
