“The story of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is captured by the style and elegance of Naomi Kawase’s trademark. The film presents the Games through a truly unique lens,” said German IOC President Thomas Bach.

The agency recalled that the film depicts the unusual context in which the Games were held, in addition to the history of the sport and competition, and the hundreds of hours taken for its preparation were recorded over two years, before the festival. its. after being proposed in 2021 due to pandemic.

The Cannes festival, which will celebrate its 75th edition this year, will be included in its selection of “Classics” as well as “Visions of Eight”, about Munich 1972, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Games held in the city of Germany. The film was released on the show in 1973 and was awarded as best documentary at the 1974 Golden Globes.
