Katherine Legge’s #44 Honda Hendrickson caught Wilson’s #24 Chevrolet DRR Cusick CareKeepers in the first turn of the oval at high speed and hit the barrier. The 42-year-old driver got out of the car under his own power, but not Wilson, who had to be evacuated from the car by medical personnel to be taken to hospital.
The Dreyer & Reinbold team shared that the pilot suffered a fracture of the 12th thoracic vertebra. “Based on this type of injury, Wilson will not be able to compete in the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 this Sunday,” the team added.
