Ivan Toney, Brentford striker who was suspended for eight months for betting, saw his sentence reduced, which was initially going to be eleven months, after a psychiatrist diagnosed him with a gambling addiction.
Toney broke the regulation of the game in English football on 262 occasions, which earned him a sanction from the English federation (FA, for its acronym in English) of eight months without playing and four without training with his club, the Brentford.
The FA revealed the reasons on Friday of the sanction of Tony and explained that at first it would be more difficult, with an eleven-month suspension, but after a psychiatrist examined the footballer, he understood that he had a gambling addiction and that he needed professional help.
Tony admitted lied in his first FA meetings and said he had stopped betting on football, but not other sports and that he was committed to treating his gambling addiction with therapy.
Despite the sanction, which will not allow Tony play until January 2024, his club, the Brentfordis committed to helping the footballer and even talks to renew his contract.
