The Spanish Albert Riera Vidal has guided New Zealand’s Auckland City to it 11th Oceania Champions League title, by beating Fijian Suva 4-2 this Saturday after extra time in the final played at Port Vila Freshwater Stadium (Vanuatu).
Despite going into halftime with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Angus Kikolly (m. 34) and Ryan de Vries (m. 48+), the dismissal of Spanish midfielder Gerard Garriga (m. 60 ) allowed Suva to react and force extension with goals from Alex Saniel (m. 66) and Marlon Tahioa (m. 84).
In further time, the forces were balanced with the double warning of Azariah Soromon (m. 99). With the numbers level, Auckland City again took control and sealed the victory with goals from Cameron Howieson (m. 108) and de Vries (m. 122).
The New Zealand team will then represent Oceania next FIFA Club World Cup.
