Alonso’s viral radio in Monaco everyone is talking about

Date:

Fernando Alonso he did it again. There are already several radio stations that he has starred in this year that have gone viral because of his extreme control over the situation, his soul as an engineer and his team support. And Fernando’s radio after the outcome of the Monaco F1 GP classification was once again a clear reflection of the enormous communion between driver and team that exists at Aston Martin. The man from Oviedo took temporary pole position with a spectacular last attempt in Q3, but seconds later, as the clock ticked down to zero, Verstappen he took the pole by only 84 thousandths. Any other driver must be encouraged from the wall after the normal failure of losing a pole position he already had in hand. But in this case, It was Fernando who wanted to raise the spirits of the group and remember the importance of the milestone achieved, something that was unthinkable before the start of the course as the second position on the starting grid in Monaco head-to-head against champion Max Verstappen, against the dominant car of the championship.

“I can’t go any faster than this. Regardless of the final position, this is the best we’ve had.”said Fernando, aware that Verstappen was back and the Dutchman could overtake him and relegate him to second place.

“It’s over bro, it’s over. Sorry, but you missed 8 hundredths”, his track engineer confirmed. Far from showing disappointment, Alonso pulled himself together and urged them to hold their heads high and be proud of what they had achieved: “Very good guys. Don’t be disappointed. Regardless of the final position, it’s the best we’ve had.”.

“You’re good, man,” replied his engineer. “Yes. Who would have imagined this two months ago? Everything was so good”concluded Fernando with a lesson in camaraderie with his engineers, mechanics and the entire Aston Martin staff, a group where he feels at home because of the shared ambition of fighting for a title in the near future.

“I’m pushing like an anima, man”

But that’s not Fernando Alonso’s only known radio station in Monaco. After a great first lap of Q3 in which he was first, beating Sainz by 29 thousandths, Leclerc by 53 and Verstappen by almost 4 tenths, the man from Oviedo made it clear that he was giving it his all. Fernando has already warned that he will attack “more than any other circuit” this weekend because he knows the chance to win is there even if Verstappen is the favourite. And he made it clear on the track and in his subsequent radio. “you first”his wall told him after Q3’s first attempt. “I drive like an animal, man”, Alonso replied glowingly. But on the next lap, Max finally passed him by only 84 thousandths.

Later, in a press conference, he explained that he had to exceed the limits of the car once, without leaving anything inside to try to take advantage of his best option at the start of the course to go for Red Bull.

“If I could do something else? apparently not. (laughs) I think in both Q3 runs we increased the risk level to a low comfort level, if you will, and in both Q3 runs I went over the limit at times. Although everything went well, the last sector seemed to be our weakness on this circuit. I think we were already the eighth team in Free Practice in that sector so there is something we need to analyze there, perhaps with a view to Singapore or the next opportunity that presents itself”, said Alonso, who once again showed his soul in -engineer, because he is already thinking about improving the car in this type of sector to fight for pole position in another urban and buzzard track like Singapore.
