Brenford had the honor of closing out the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over champions Manchester City, which again took a pitch full of secondary players to avoid untimely injury to its stars.
It is noted that Pep Guardiola’s men have their minds set on their two big goals, the CA Cup final and the Champions League final, which will be played in the coming weeks and could lead to an unprecedented treble for the showcases of club.
The fight is heavy and boring. The small rhythm and less occasion provided a more even match than it seemed at first. With Ederson the only one of the undisputed ones on the pitch, the fun was to see how the less ordinary performed, but they played a watered-down game. City attacked more, but apart from Raya’s excellent save on Foden, just starting and one on Palmer’s end which incredibly didn’t go in, the rest of the shots went wide and didn’t bring much that risk.
Nor did Brentford do much else. With Mbeumo at the helm in Toney’s absence through suspension, dangerous plays had to go through his boots on a regular basis, even if the main man of the arrivals was Mee in approach.
In the end, when the game seemed certain to end in a draw, Tomas Frank’s men scored a goal. A quick free kick by Brentford caught the City defense by surprise and after a poor shot from Mbeumo Pinnock he came to put it to sleep (85′).
With this goal, Brentford became the only team in England to win both games in the Premier League.
