The engineering director of Red Bull Rob Marshall leaving at the end of the year from the Austrian team to join McLarenas announced this Tuesday by both teams.
McLaren announced that Marshall, 55, will take on the role of technical, engineering and design director when he starts work at Woking from January 1, 2024.
The British engineer has been with Red Bull for 17 years: he was chief designer from 2006 to 2016, during which the energetic team won four consecutive world titles for both drivers and constructors with Sebastian Vettel.
He also used to work at Renault and collaborated on the titles in 2005, then with the Spanish pilot Fernando Alonso in their ranks.
“His work in designing the cars that gave us an incredible four double championships between 2010 and 2013 was truly outstanding,” said the Red Bull team boss, Christian Hornerit is a statement.
“His influence will be missed, but we thank him again for all he has done and wish him well in his new role,” added Horner.
McLaren assured that Marshall’s arrival was “a major step” for the team to return to the top positions on the grid.
“The addition of a high level, qualified individual like Rob will further strengthen our ability to set the highest technical standards at McLaren and be in a position to design winning F1 cars,” said the team boss, Andrea Stella.
McLaren, the team with the second most historic victories, last won the title with Lewis hamilton in 2008. After six races out of 22 scheduled in 2023, the British team is currently 6th in world of builders.
