He did it: the resident of Dornbirner Bernhard Hengl was the first Austrian to swim in length by Lake Constance. He was on the road for more than 24 hours.
It was a mission on the limit: non -stop and without a wetsuit from the German bodman to Begenz, who is between 64 and 68 kilometers, depending on the power conditions. It started on Friday evening, more than 24 hours later Hengl arrived in Bregenz on Saturday evening – completely exhausted, but luckily. In between, he had to go through hell a few times: the cold, darkness, the difficult power conditions – a torture for body and mind.
Swim through seven lakes
The former water ball player has therefore reached the second and perhaps the most difficult phase of his “Alpine7” challenge, in the course of the course of which he would like to swim seven Alpine Lakes. On September 15 he wants to swim through the Wörthersee (17 kilometers). In the coming years, Lake Geneva (73 kilometers), Lake Garda (52 kilometers), Lake Lucerne (39 kilometers) and Lake Maggiore (65 kilometers) are on the program.
In the service of a good thing
With his action, Hengl, who had lymph node cancer a few years ago, wants to increase consciousness of neurofibromatosis disease and donations for their research. And so it fits perfectly that he was accompanied by his former Waterpolo colleague Johannes Gojo, who is now a professor in pediatric neuro-oncology in Meduni Vienna on the last kilometer of his Lake Constance.
