The COE plans to qualify more than 300 athletes for the Paris Games

Between 316 and 341 athletes: in this forecast, as in Tokyo 2020, the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) is working for the Paris 2024 Gamesaccording to figures presented this Wednesday at the organization’s general meeting held in Madrid.

Ricardo Leiva, director of Sports at the COE, pointed out that it is expected that there will be Spanish representation “in 30 of the 32 sports, at least eight team sports and in 73 sports modalities.”

In Paris, 987 medals will be distributed. Spain already has guaranteed places in two sports, rhythmic gymnastics and shooting.

The Spanish delegation to the Tokyo 2020 Games, held in 2021, consists of 322 athletes. In team disciplines, the two competed in basketball, handball, water polo and hockey and men’s soccer.

The team won 17 medals in the Japanese capital, the same as in Rio 2016although with less than half the gold medals, only three compared to seven in the previous five years, so in the final medal table he dropped from fourteenth to twenty-second position.

The president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, is optimistic about the possibility of improving these results in Paris.
