Villarreal’s coach Quique Setien, commented in a press conference that always trusting that it will continue at the club for the year remaining on his contract and he has been satisfied with the work carried out since he arrived in the Castellón team to replace Unai Emery, at the beginning of the season.
“I I have no news against it. I still have one year left on my contract and I always thought I would continue. I never doubted that I would continue at the club, I never felt that way,” he assured.
“When I get into a team, I always think about that I will stay for the rest of my life. I tried to improve things. Our goal is to get a better team than what we had when I arrived,” he added.
Setién commented that when he signed for Villarreal he had to adapt to a club “where things went well” so that later aspects can be changed “to better suit your way of doing things”. “We haven’t made any radical changes, except for the identity I want for the team. Over time, I’ll try to get to what’s perfect for me. I’m just one in this club. It’s a journey that’s slow – slowly”.
“They hired me to try to do things well and improve in terms of qualifying. I think the data is positive and good. It is important for the club to get into Europe. We have only worked, have firm convictions in what we do… We must prioritize good performance to get the job done well”, he stressed.
Looking forward to Sunday’s match at La Cerámica against Atlético, he pointed out that his team “slightly reduced”. “We have some players who will no longer participate, because they had some problems, and to save time, we started to solve them,” he said.
“I expect a difficult game. The possibility that the Atletico Madrid second may be there. It is a great team that had a very good season, which is going to cost us and it is going to compromise us a lot. I think it’s important to leave a good feeling and the team has to fight until the end”, he continued.
Asked about the signings the club will make for next campaign, he said: “I’m not demanding. The first thing is the institution, the club. I understand that the club should decide important things, I can say what I need and what should be changed, but I don’t interfere or make demands,” he explained.
“I think we have one significant room for improvement. I am very clear about what needs to be improved. The important thing is to have clear goals about what you can improve and improve on that,” he concluded.
