“Intolerable Detention” – Iran: Two Austrian citizens released

Date:

Two Austrian citizens have been released from Iranian detention after diplomatic efforts. The federal government speaks of a “great success”.

The two Austrian nationals Kamran Ghaderi and Massud Mossaheb are now on their way back to Austria “after many years of unbearable captivity” in Iran, Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg (both ÖVP) said Friday.

Nehammer literally: “A long ordeal for the two Austrians and their families is finally coming to an end. I am happy and very happy with the release, which is the result of long and intensive work. This is a huge diplomatic success that shows that intensive international cooperation in trust at all levels is worthwhile.” Among other things, the Chancellor spoke of “years of effort in this case” and expressly thanked Schallenberg and Secretary-General Peter Launsky.

In the run-up there was also an “intensive exchange” with Nehammer’s Belgian counterpart Alexander De Croo. “Our partners in Oman” also played a crucial role.
