From the scrapyard to Alonso’s ‘Aston Martin’

Date:

The passion for Fernando Alonso in some cases he creates stories that go unnoticed. Case in point is the trip they did Chema Diaz and his son Alvaro from Segovia to Barcelona to experience the Spanish GP. What was curious was not the trip itself, but the vehicle he used: a 26-year-old Opel Corsa decorated in Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin colors and stickers.

When they arrived in Barcelona they posted a photo on social networks and their photos immediately went viral. “Yesterday was crazy,” Chema said. “I told him that if he wanted people to see it, he had to post it on Twitter and tag celebrities to get some RTs,” commented Álvaro. “What we want is that at some point Alonso signs the car for us. We are willing to go to Oviedo, to his museum, wherever.”

As with many, Fernando Alonso is what got the family hooked on Formula 1. The father after two championships in 2005 and 2006 (his blue and yellow Renault shirt reflected this) and the son recently on the rise of Aston Martin. To put his passion in context, Chema told us an amusing anecdote: “During the famous ‘Sanganchao’ in Hamilton in China 2007, I shouted it so much that my wife scolded me because the children were still asleep on time that was in the morning. .

How was ‘Aston Martin’ created?

The funny thing at the beginning of the process is that at first they wouldn’t hide the car they used: “We have a car buying-selling business and a collection of old models and a friend offered me this Corsa. At first he said no because it’s not classic either. But he persisted and I thought if he’s going to give it to me, why not?” explained Chema.

So it went from ending up in the scrapyard, to starting to become Alonso’s ‘Aston Martin’.

“So when I saw the color the idea came to me. It’s not the first one we’ve customized. In fact, we have 2 CVs painted from Atlético de Madrid. Once decided, we painted it green first, then we made the bottom of the body black. . We added the yellow tape and the rest of the work was done for me by a sign maker over there in Segovia”

The result speaks for itself:

Despite being an authentic relic, they don’t want to take it to the Circuit because the last time Atleti won the League, they went to Madrid with their decorated car, someone supporting it while they all celebrated. So they don’t want any fear. But, despite not taking it to the Montmeló track, they have already left their particular mark on this Spanish GP.
