Federico Dimarco is five days away from playing the game of his life, the Champions League final against Manchester City. Now the Inter left winger paraphrases Jose Mourinho when explaining how he sees the great game in Istanbul.
“Playing in the finals of the Champions League doesn’t happen every day and to play it as the protagonist is something incredible,” said Dimarco. “As a team, we are proud and happy with this victory that we deserve on the pitch. Winning this trophy is a dream, for them it is an obsession.”
The same phrase was uttered by Mourinho, then Inter coach, in 2010 before facing FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the semifinals of the Champions League. The ‘nerazzurri’ won at the San Siro (3-1) and, although they lost at the Barça coliseum (1-0), they went to the final, which they won against Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabéu (2-0) and closed out the treble that City are now seeking to achieve.
“Haaland? Are you afraid of murderers and evil people”
For his part, Alessandro Bastoni, one of Inter’s three central defenders, will have a mission to stop Erling Haaland, who scored 12 goals in the current edition of the Champions League and 52 this season.
“You fear murderers and bad people, not footballers our age. It’s a mistake to talk about fear. We have to go out on the field with a calm head and play a football match as we know it us,” said Bastoni. “It’s not Haaland against Inter, it’s Manchester City against Inter. No fear, a good level of tension. I look forward to it.”
