It has been, friends. A very special season ends on a personal level. The 35th anniversary of my arrival in this wonderful passion called Atlético de Madrid. In 2022-23 I had the great honor to receive various tributes, as the image of the membership card and that the club created a replica with my number 10. If this is unimaginable pride, it is more which reached the historic record of 135,000 mattress members on the club’s 120th anniversary. The great is also very special Cholo overcome the Sage of Hortaleza as a rojiblanco coach with the most games; or our great captain Coke he became the mattress player with the most matches. Records that seem impossible in today’s football. But we already know which is the group that never stops believing.
Being a special season, the end should be crowned with a title, but it was not possible. The big question that all colchoneros are asking ourselves today is: isn’t it possible, why can’t we or why didn’t they let us? Can’t help but think of that red card belt. Or all the harsh punishments without whistles without explanation. The injustice against Villarreal sums up the tone of the season. Not to mention the biggest refereeing scandal I’ve seen in years, the non-red card on ceballos in the King’s Cup. It’s unbelievable that something like this is still happening in 2023, it made me feel like I was traveling back in time to the 80s or 90s. Unbelievable.
It’s true that we didn’t have the best start to the season. Those first months we entered a negative dynamic, added to the misfortune of that penalty against Leverkusen. He didn’t even deny the ball he wanted to enter. But we all know that football is not how it starts, but how it ends. The great Cholo and their cracks redeemed themselves in a big way in the second round. I have no doubt that if we had blown the whistle like the other teams, we would have gone further. My summary of the season: against all and against all, we reached the semifinals of the Copa del Rey and third in La Liga. Proudly. The arbitration scandals against our club have not changed, nor has my pride in Atlético.
It’s a real honor to have me in your wallets. Next year we will come back stronger. We keep bothering. We will be busy. Hey Atleti!
