Until Sunday in use – Storm damage: Now 50 soldiers are packing

After the devastating storm and civil protection alarm on Monday evening in the Tyrolean Gschnitz, cleaning up on Wednesday will continue to be at full speed. Since the early hours of the morning, the countless helpers have also been supported by 50 soldiers of the federal army. The army will be on site on Sunday and tackle it.

The fear was great on Tuesday for further storms – and in fact, threatening dark clouds in combination with heavy rainfall moved to the Gschnitztal in the evening. And there was also a mure, directly on the state roads! When the situation relaxed, it started to clear the way at night.

50 soldiers on the spot until Sunday
Because even in the morning there was further support to remove Monday’s storm damage. In addition to the fire brigade, police, salvation and many other helpers, 50 soldiers from the Austrian forces in Gschnitz have also been in use since Wednesday. At least until Sunday they have to tackle powerfully in the village.

“The federal army is always on the side of difficult situations such as those of the population. We offer rapid and reliable help with our soldiers and technical means. Tyrol can trust our trust,” said Defense Klaudia Tanner Minister.

The focus is currently on removing debris, pumping cellars, stables and buildings, as well as the exposure of transport connections, the country reported in the morning.

In addition, a disaster train with 70 troops and 16 vehicles from 23 fire brigades will also be used on Wednesday. The extent of the destruction and damage in the village is huge.

Already on Tuesday the clean -up work in the village had completely started with heavy equipment. In the first place, it was necessary to free the streams and trenches to be equipped for possible further storms.

Civil Protection Alarm and AT-Alert activated
Civil protection alarm and AT-Alert were activated on Monday evening for the municipality of Gschnitz. The reason was that walls outputs, slope and floods. According to the current state of knowledge, around 20 houses were damaged according to the current state of knowledge – one of which was literally torn away. There were no injuries as if by a miracle.
