Seven people dead – horror tractor accident: three men charged

Date:

It has now been nine months since the tragic accident with a tractor on Autobahn 94 in Upper Bavaria. The Traunstein Public Prosecutor’s Office has now filed charges against three alleged organisers of the trip. The charge: infiltration resulting in death, as the authorities had announced.

The van in which the 24-year-old driver drove away from the police at high speed was completely overcrowded. Seven prisoners died, including a child. The driver is still under investigation. The Public Prosecution Service accuses him of seven murders.

A total of three men, who were 17, 22 and 23 years old at the time of the crime in October 2023, are in custody. The other two are strongly suspected of having organised and carried out the towing operation as so-called ‘scout drivers’ together with the driver.

However, the Public Prosecution Service assumes that the scouts – unlike the driver – did not act with the intention of killing and were therefore guilty of infiltration resulting in death.

Now the youth chamber of the Traunstein regional court must decide whether the charges will be recognized. The vehicle had a Viennese license plate. The 24-year-old stateless driver lived in the federal capital.

What exactly happened?
The three men are said to have been aware of police checks at the Simbach border crossing on the day of the crime and led the driver of the minibus to the Burghausen border crossing. When the driver realized that he had attracted the attention of police officers, he is said to have accelerated after a phone call to the scouts – the completely overloaded vehicle reached speeds of up to 180 kilometers per hour. When driving onto the Waldkraiburg/Ampfing exit, the minibus overturned with catastrophic consequences.
