After many years of news and rumors, on April 18, 2021, a new project called to change European football was officially born: the super league. The twelve clubs that originally promoted the project were three Spanish: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid; six english: Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham; and three Italians: Milan, Inter and Juventus.
What is the project?
The idea is to create a new competition where there will be 15 permanent clubs (the 12 plan to invite another three to become founders as well) and five more that do not have a guaranteed place and that will be added according to their performance in the previous campaign .
In this new tournament, they aim to generate more than 4,000 million euros per season thanks to sponsorship and television rights, doubling what clubs currently receive by UEFA. There is also a fixed initial 3,500 million to be distributed to the founders.
The announcement provoked a logical rejection of the UEFA, who threatened harsh punishment, but also to the governments involved and even between the coaches and players of the teams involved. He did not like, above all, that sports merits hardly counted in this new competition. The fans also spoke, especially in Premier Leaguesummoning concentrations of proposal rejection.
Withdrawal after 48 hours
All this caused in just 48 hours six English clubs (Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham) backed off and abandoned the project. Days later, Atletico Madrid, Milan and Inter Milan they did the same thing boat, real Madrid and Juventus they fight.
