Jakob Ingebrigtsen added a new milestone to his extensive record by beating the best mark in history by two miles at Paris Diamond League, an unusual test of 3,218 meters. The Norwegian broke the Kenyan historical record Daniel commented set in 1997 by more than four seconds with 7’54”10 (7’58”61 with Komen).
It was a mark set three years before Jakob was born and there were many looking forward to seeing what the reigning Olympic champion could do in the 1,500 m Tokyo’2021.
Ingebrigtsen made good use of the work of the two hares put to him by the organization of the Paris Meeting, Kyumbe Munguti and benoit campion. The Norwegian, used to shooting in most of the races in which he competes, passed the 1,000m in 2’29″07, the 2,000m in 4’56″95 and a final thousand in 2’28″15.
In this way, Ingebrigtsen confirms the good performance obtained after spending the last month focused on the height of Sierra Nevada and faces this season with the clear goal of defending the Budapest (19-27 August) his 5,000 m world title and his first gold in the 1,500 m.
