2-3: Marseille remain 5 points behind PSG ahead of the classic

Date:

Marseille needed a return to the Municipal stadium against Toulouse (2-3) to tie the victory on matchday 24 of Ligue 1 and extend the pulse for leadership with Paris Saint-Germain, where they are separated by five points.

Next Sunday, Marseille will host PSG at the Vélodrome in an exciting classic that comes just two and a half weeks after Olympique eliminated the Parisians in the round of 16 of the French Cup (2-1) in a match played on September 8.

Igor Tudor’s team was left with no margin for error after the champion achieved victory in extremis against Lille (4-3). But Marseille responded with a sealed victory in the second half.

Montanier’s Toulouse advanced

Philippe Montanier’s Toulouse took an early lead, after three minutes, when Dutchman Thijs Dallinga beat Pau López.

Marseille didn’t find the reward for their reaction until after the break, but within seven minutes they pulled the score back. They equalized in the 52′ thanks to Congolese Chancel Mbemba and in the 59′ the Turkish Cengiz Ünder put the visitors ahead, sealing their victory in the 79′ thanks to the Portuguese Nuno Tavares.

Toulouse returned the tension in the final period when Japanese Ado Onaiwu scored the second goal for his team and established the final result.

Marseille regained the second place in Ligue 1 temporarily snatched from them by Monaco today with their win against Reins (1-2) and remains five points behind the leader of PSG.
