With the exception of Vorarlberg, lightning was registered in all federal states in Austria on Monday. According to the Storm Center (UWZ) in Upper Austria, most thunderstorms – with strong gusts of wind in the districts of Gmunden, Kirchdorf an der Krems and Vöcklabruck.
The UWZ team placed a radar image on Monday that showed a thunderstorm at Wels and another in Upper Styria. Later a thunderstorm from the northwest also moved above Vienna. There were temporary wind warnings in all districts for the federal capital, and it also rained heavily. Previously, gusts of wind up to 88 kilometers per hour were measured in Tulln (Lower Austria). The stations with the strongest gusts of wind in Austria were apart from Langenlebarn (Tulln) and Vienna – city center Pernegg an der Mur (Styria) as well as Kapfenberg and Dachstein/Hunerkogel (also Styria).
Many photos were placed on social media that have recorded the dark mood. With the exception of Vorarlberg – the thunderstorm remained in Bavaria – lightning was registered in all federal states, many of them in Upper Austria. On the other hand, there were only four discharges in Tyrol. The temperatures were very different, they were between 15 degrees Celsius (Ötztal in Tyrol) and 31 degrees Celsius (Mistelbach in Lower Austria).

Already on Sunday there were storms around Wiener Neustadt (Lower Austria) and in parts of Burgenland. On the late Monday evening it largely stopped again: the UWZ only reported thunderstorms and hail in Tyrol and Salzburg (from 10.30 am). No storms were registered for all other federal states.

Mix of rain and clouds wait for us
According to the meteorologists, the thunderstorms disappear in the night of Tuesday. Individual showers are still possible. Numerous rain shower will be expected again on Tuesday afternoon, especially in Upper Austria and in the Waldviertel, local thunderstorms. With strong wind, people on Lake Constance, in the Danube and the Alpine Edge region, have to count.
Wednesday also starts widely with clouds and rain. This time it caught in particular southern styria. In general it remains quite cool. Up to 30 degrees Celsius are still possible on Tuesday, after which it cools up to a maximum of 25 degrees. In the morning the temperatures can even fall to ten degrees Celsius. So the house no longer needs to be left in the summer clothing.
