What does it mean if Barcelona enters the CVC agreement?

Date:

This Friday we learned that the Barcelona Soccer Club has decided to withdraw from the open procedure against the League for the agreement with the investment fund CVC. Moreover, the Barça club requested that the case be dismissed. An agreement first reached in August 2021 with 42 clubs but later the Barça club, real Madrid and the Athletic Club they did not agree to join; which was approved only for the remaining 39 clubs in the category. The first was a global injection of 2.7 billion later reduced to 2.1 billion.

Certainly yesterday we learned of a decision from the Court of First Instance of Madrid where he accepted the request of these three groups regarding the Assembly urgently called in August 2021 to address this matter. But this does not affect the Assembly of December 10 of the same year where the agreement of the remaining 39 clubs was closed. However, the League announced that it would appeal.

This proposal of the Barça club is understandable after last Tuesday LaLiga gave the go-ahead to the Treasury Plan for the next two years of the Barca club; although right now he has to be subject to the 40% rule (for every ten million you sell you can use four to sign) while the Squad Cost Limit is greatly exceeded.

But the big question is: what if the Barcelona join the CVC agreement? It should be noted that at the beginning the investment of the fund, as we explained in the lines above, was about 2,700 million (2,665 million). And where Barcelona is the club that will receive the most money in this initial distribution with a total of 253 million. Amount where there are conditions for its use. 70% of this should be used for infrastructure, technological innovation and digitization. This means 177.1 million euros.

Another 15% must be used by the clubs to restructure the debt of 37.95 million euros and the other 15% (37.95) million euros is allocated to extend their salary cap.

The hypothetical agreement between the Barcelona club and the CVC will have a direct effect on the two situations of the Barcelona club. First of all the remodeling works of the Camp Nou Stadium that have been carried out by the Barça club; and the nearly 38 million euros that will affect the squad’s salary cap.

In exchange, and like the other clubs that signed this agreement, they must give up 9% of the exploitation of the audiovisual rights for the next 50 years.

It should be remembered that just a year ago the club sold a percentage of its audiovisual rights. A total of 25% in the investment fund sixth street for the next 25 years, during which he will receive an amount of around 300 million euros. Now we will see if this first step of the club finally ends in an agreement with the CVC fund.
