Simone Inzaghi, the Inter coach, lamented his team’s Champions League final defeat against Manchester City but applauded the performance of his players, who pushed Guardiola’s team to the limit. “I congratulate my players, they are great. They played a great game, I know it was a difficult moment because we lost a final that we wanted at all costs”, explained the Italian coach.
“They have to be proud. Yesterday I said I wouldn’t trade my players for anyone and now everyone can see why. We conceded a little and there are a lot of regrets, but the boys have to be proud,” added Inzagui “I want to send a big hug to our fans, who have been the best and brought us here,” continued the Inter coach.
“I think everyone saw that Inter played a serious game. There is great regret, the players are sad. But this is football, this is the fifth final we have played in twenty months. We must be proud of -progress we have made.
“We didn’t suffer in the first half, but we could have done better in terms of play and movement. Then in the second half, in our best moment, we created situations but we have to finish them. We have minute on the crossbar, Gosens’ header, Lukaku’s… You wonder why the ball didn’t go in. I would have liked to play extra time, the team deserved it,” he added.
“We all know City, of course it hurts. The road in the Champions League has been exceptional, it has been an extraordinary route. I’m proud of these boys, they were perfect, they deserved more. But this is football,” lamented he.
