Nick Taylor was awarded this Sunday on the fourth hole of the Canadian Open tiebreaker against Englishman Tommy Fleetwoodwho became the first Canadian to win the tournament since 1954.
Taylor completed his victory at Oakdale Golf & Country Club in Toronto by making a putt from 22.5 metres, the longest of his professional career, and finished the 18th hole with a birdie, a shot more low in Fleetwood.
Taylor and Fleetwood finished Sunday’s regulation 18 holes tied at 271 stroke, 17 under par, after completing the day at 66 and 67 strokes, respectively.
Both players finished the first playoff hole, played on the 18th, with a birdie. The next two playoff holes were played by Taylor and Fleetwood at par.
Finally, Taylor, who started the day on Sunday in eighth place in the standings, he prevailed in the fourth tiebreaker in front of his spectators with a birdie achieved with a spectacular putt of 22.5 meters.
After becoming the first Canadian to win the tournament in 69 yearsTaylor declared that she had no words to express her feelings.
