the dutch Wesley Kohloff and the british Neal Skupskia doubles pair formed earlier this year but already topping the world rankings, won the Final of the tournament in Madrid of the Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah for 6-7 (4), 6-4 and 10-5.
With no precedent for past clashes between the two couples, the South American is currently ranked twelfth.
After a break exchange in the first set, four consecutive points from Cabal and Farah in the middle of the tiebreaker game put them on a plate.
In the second set, they had a service loss in the fifth game that they never recovered.
The super tiebreaker is clearly dominated by world ranking leaders. Skupski and Koolhof continued with an 8-1 lead. Although the Colombians cut back and came close to 9-5, they were no longer able to force a comeback.
The winners added the Madrid title to those already achieved in Melbourne, Adelaide-2 and Doha. They lead the season in wins, titles and finals.
Cabal and Farah, the best on the circuit in 2019, the year in which they won Wimbledon and the US Open, have yet to release their record this year.
