The Spanish cyclist Juan Ayusofrom the UAE Emirates team, starred this Sunday in a show of strength to win the closing individual time trial of tour of switzerlandwhere the final victory went to the Danish Mattias Skjelmose (Trek-Segafredo).
The 20-year-old from Barcelona, who signed his fourth victory as a professional, finished the race in second place, just 9 seconds behind the winner, Skjelmose. Evenepoel completed the podium, third out of 45.
“I am happy because this is my second time trial victory of the year, so I am happy to improve this discipline,” said Ayuso in the statements released by his team.
“At the same time I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t win overall by such a small margin, but Mattias has been very strong and I congratulate him,” he added.
“I would like to dedicate the stage victory to Gino (Mader). Everyone has given their best these days to honor his memory,” he said about the Swiss cyclist, who died on Friday after tripping on Thursday’s stage.
