Scottie Scheffler, third this Sunday at the US Open, increased his lead over Jon Rahm at the top of the world golf rankings, while Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, second behind the winner, Wyndham Clark, closes in on the Spaniard.
Scheffler leads the table with an average of 11.93 points after adding his fifth consecutive ‘top 5’, to Rahm’s 10.29tenth in Las Vegas thanks to a great final day, and the 9.24 of McIlroy, who fought to the end for victory in the third ‘big’ of the season.
Following the podium were Patrick Cantlay (7.22), Norwegian Viktor Hovland (6.67) and Xander Schauffele (6.45).and the only change in the ‘top 10’ was made by Australian Cameron Smith, who moved up to seventh place at the expense of Max Homa, who dropped to ninth.
Clark experienced a big rise and after winning the Open he settled for thirteenth, just behind his compatriot Brooks Koepka, the winner of the previous ‘grand slam’ tournament, the PGA Championship.
Pablo Larrazábal dropped two positions to 54, Adrián Otaegui dropped to 86 and Adri Arnaus remains at 96. Sergio García, twenty-seventh this Sunday, improves 50 places, from 247 to 197.
