Orta: “Sevilla is the club I’ve always wanted to work for”

Date:

Sevilla presented Víctor Orta as their new sporting director, a position he reached with the demanding challenge of replacing Monchi, who left office to respond to Unai Emery’s call at Aston Villa.

The man from Madrid, who arrived after a three-year spell at Leeds, made sure that he was excited about the project and that it was what he wanted, to return to a club where he spent seven years, from 2006 to 2013.

“Anyone who comes to work at Sevilla FC is at the best moment of their professional career. This is the club where I want to work. I come back to this house with my son sitting there and it means a lot to me. I don’t thought I would make this shield on my chest again. My family knows that for me it is a dream come true and that’s how I feel”, assured the new Sevilla executive, who will lead a sports team where Fernando Navarro will continue, Emilio de Dios and the other coaches during Monchi’s time. who will be with his two strainers, Gabi Ruiz and Alberto Cordero.

The new sports director started by praising the squad. “This is a squad that emerged champions. It was a great success, and what is needed is to renew that success. You have to build an exciting team, work hard and continue on the line to the demands of this club. I like to assume this requirement with the help of the CEOs”, he explained.

He also spoke about the coach José Luis Mendilibar, whom he met, albeit for a short time, in Valladolid. “I decided to give it a good chance with Caminero. We spent twenty-odd days together, not much, but I can certify that he is a great coach. I always considered him a great coach. He always had the ability to race train a big team and he showed it by being a champion”.

Orta declared himself a disciple and admirer of Monchi, with whom he maintained a good relationship “I trained with him, I spent seven years by his side. Now I am a different person, I have traveled the world, I have worked with clubs with budgets like Sevilla’s, because I directed them. But my relationship is very close, I congratulated him on the recent title. I always have a friendly relationship.”

“They contacted me on Friday night, and I got an offer on Saturday morning. And 72 hours later, I’m sitting here. There can’t be maximum efficiency in hiring an athletic director.”

The former Leeds sports director cherishes his time in England, where he experienced promotion but also relegation last season. “It was very satisfying. We managed to promote a team that was in the lower divisions for 17 years. I managed a budget in the Premier League. I forget the bad times, but I experienced a lot of good ones thing.”

Orta also declared himself a lover of Big Data, from which he will not give up: “We are in the 21st century, technologies contribute a lot and you can’t close the door on that. Everything adds up. As always I say, I will never sign a player just for your data, but I will never sign it without checking your data”.
