Between May 8 and July 26, when it will be located in the Olympic cauldron -whose location has not yet been revealed- the Olympic torch of the Paris 2024 Games will visit 65 French cities and one hundred tourist sites, such as Mont Saint-Michel or the Palace of Versailles.
The flame will be lit in Olympia on April 16 and for nine days it will travel through different parts of Greece, before arriving at the Panathinaiko stadium in Athens and, from there, to the port of Piraeus, where it will start at Belem, aboard where it will cross the Mediterranean until reaching Marseille on May 8.
From that moment, 10,000 relievers will pass the Olympic fire for eleven weeks during which the flame will travel throughout the territory of France, including departments abroad.
The Arles amphitheater, built in 80 years BC, will be one of the first monuments visited by the Olympic fire, which will also cross the Millau viaduct, an impressive work of architecture from the modern era.
Throughout the day, France will take advantage of the torchlight route to show some of its most touristic places, such as the medieval city of Carcassonne, the beaches of Biarritz or the Lascaux caves and their cave paintings, without forgetting the landing beaches of Normandy, which will be 80 years old.
Mont Saint-Michel, one of the most visited places in the country, is another highlight of the torchlight journey, which on June 7 will board one of the Vendée-Globe boats in Brest, heading to the Overseas departments : Polynesia, Guyana -with access to the Kurú space center-, La Reunion, Gaudeloupe and Martinique.
Returning to France on June 18, the relievers will walk the steps of the famous red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival, visit the papal palace in Avignon and climb the ramps of Mont Ventoux, one of the famous passes of the Tour de France.
On the way north, after passing Lake Annecy or the Mont Blanc valley, you will also pass the World War I memorial in Verdun, the Champagne vineyards, the Rouen cathedral or the Loire castles, before arriving in the Paris region.
In the waters of the Seine
The Palace of Versailles or a visit to the National Assembly, which hosts 577 national representatives in Paris, are other places where the Olympic flame will be lit.
On July 26, 2024, at the end of the opening ceremony of the Games -which for the first time will take place outside the Olympic stadium, on the waters of the Seine-, a torch will light the cauldron which will remain lit until the closing. on July 11. August.
The organizers have kept secret the location of this cauldron, although the Eiffel Tower, one of the most emblematic of the country, does not appear among the monuments that will be crossed by the Olympic torch.
This could mean that the Olympic fire will be located in that monument during the Games, as the tour of delegations from different countries also ends up next to the tower after the original opening ceremony.
