Jon Uriarte was elected president of Athletic in the rojiblancas elections held last year in San Mamés. The Bilbao businessman, then 44 years old, beat his two rivals in all the polls. His candidacy was endorsed in the poll by 10,979 votes, 46.71% of the total.
“The results showed that there are many people who want to start this transformational process,” commented the current head of the Ibaigane entity in full celebration of his victory.
A year later, the question remains whether many of those voters will give him their trust again. His first year in office, as is usually the case with all first-timers in Ibaigane, presented lights and shadows. It seems, in any case, that many of the members of Athletic expected other things after the arrival of Uriarte in the presidency.
“We think that Athletic has strength, but there are also some negative synergies in all areas. This is what we want to change”, he argued on the day of his election. There have been changes, but not all for better; especially in the pure sports field.
