Bezzecchi took no prisoners in Assen: he also took the Sprint

Date:

Mooney VR46 pilot Marco Bezzecchi He became this Saturday’s Assen Sprint the fourth different winner of the new type of race with victory announced after the Dutch weekend where he dominated all sessions since P1 on Friday. Undefeated on Friday and Saturday, it’s time to cap off his fantastic weekend at TT Assen this Sunday. He overtook Pecco Bagnaia and joined them on the podium Fabio Quartararo for a 3″ penalty for crossing the track limits five times to Brad Binder. He was unable to overcome him on the track, but he fought well for him as a fractured big toe on his left foot limited him as result of a blow that ran into a step in Amsterdam while running.

from the pole Marco Bezzecchi He kept the initiative against Bagnaia and Binder who progressed to third place and in two corners they passed Bezzecchi, more diesel than them at the start. Excellent first laps Jorge Martin who finished sixth from tenth on the grid and behind Marc Márquez requested a comeback at least from the start, from 17th to 13th place on the first pass to the finish line.

Bagnaia invoked a solo breakaway and the play was seen by Bezzecchi who quickly overtook Binder, with less pace than the Ducatis. They tried to hold the leading group of Quartararo and Martín completing the top-5. Bezzecchi’s overtake on Bagnaia came on the third lap and he finally let go of his VR46 Academy teammate on the fourth lap, dropping him seven tenths.

By the seventh lap, Bezzecchi had put a second behind Bagnaia trying to finish the race with 6 laps to go. Pecco tried to squeeze three from the end, but one turn his brand mate got the second from the mattress. The battle for the third drawer was more open between Binder and Quartararo, joined by Aleix Espargaró.

Aleix used his leading role in Assen by overtaking Jorge Martín for fifth place and they combined for Quartararo and Binder, but the man from Madrid without rhythm could not keep up with that good Aprilia wheel and ended up sixth.

In the absence of a turn and a half, Binder was penalized for a long lap, or, failing that, a three-second penalty if he could not comply, for the track’s limits – going green five times in the race, the sensor whistled and did not deceive- and he lost the third drawer in the hands of Fabio Quartararo and Aleix Espargaró also won a place. Jorge Martín was unable to take advantage of this and retained sixth place in the race and second overall now 21 points behind Bagnaia and Bezzecchi close behind them, 31 points behind Bagnaia.

Marc Márquez finished the race

After fighting a few curves with Nakagami for 13th place in the middle of the race, the Japanese managed to escape Marc Márquez, who rolled 9 tenths slower than him, like his brother Alex and Bastianini before . In one lap he also lost a place with Morbidelli and Raúl Fernández who dropped to 15th place on the seventh lap and on the 16th lap later he was overtaken by rookie Augusto Fernández who was stroking 1″2 each lap slower than Bezzecchi. Also two from the finish the Aprilia Savadori tester overtook him and dropped him to 17th, entering 19″916 at the back of the head.

As for the rest of the Spaniards, Maverick Viñales was seventh, Alex Márquez ninth adding the last point, Augusto Fernández 14th, Marc Márquez 17th, Raúl Fernández 18th and Iker Lecuona 20th.
