State Secretary Pietro Parolin is against participation in the Italian cardinal Angelo Becciu and trusts on two letters written by the late Pope Francis, from which Becciu is excluded from the conclave. The letters were written in 2023 and last March when the Pope passed his last, serious illness.
Suddenly stopped after a conversation
The 76-year-old Becciu has been a close confidant of Francis for seven years as number two in the State Secretariat. The pope himself had promoted him to Cardinal. In September 2020, however, at the end of a conversation, the content of which was never revealed – Francis had, as it were.
