Attack on Supply – “Never Seen Before”: Power Outage Concerns

Date:

After Russian attacks on energy supplies in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned of impending power cuts. In addition, he called on the population to save energy in his daily video speech on Wednesday.

“Russian terrorists have created such difficult conditions for our energy workers that no one in Europe has ever seen or experienced anything like this,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday. It is an “unprecedented terror against the energy sector”. In particular, Russian troops have attacked power plants. According to the government in Kiev, about 40 percent of the energy infrastructure has already been damaged (as of October 20, 2022).

Zelenskyj once again called on the international community to increase pressure on Moscow. The local population has to save energy.

Air raids around Kiev
During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, Russian troops attacked targets around the capital Kiev from the air. A municipality where rescue workers were deployed was shelled, Governor Oleksiy Kuleba said. Some missiles could have been intercepted. On Wednesday, air raid sirens were given four times in Kiev.

More than 20 Iranian Shahed-136 combat drones are said to have taken off over southern Ukraine between 10 p.m. and midnight. 19 of them were shot down, mostly over the Odessa region, representatives of the Ukrainian Air Force said Thursday. This military information could not be independently verified.
