“Russian aggression” – Landminen -Agreement: Estonia and Lithuania were created

Date:

Estonia and Lithuania have observed their announcement and have left the Landminen agreement. On Friday, the two Baltic states officially informed the United Nations about this step.

The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs justified this with the “security situation in the region”, who “deteriorated against Ukraine because of the Russian aggression”, as well as “urgent considerations” of his own safety interests.

Further states will follow
Latvia, Poland and Finland had already announced that they wanted to leave the contract because of the military threat from Russia or have already initiated the procedures. The Lithuanian Minister of Defense Dovile Sakalien had already stated that the effective protection of the boundaries in the region would guarantee. The country will no longer be tied to the contract six months after notification.

What the agreement says
The Landminen agreement in 1997 prohibits the use, storage, production and passing on of anti-personal mines. It was signed by more than 160 countries and areas, including from Ukraine. Russia and the United States do not belong to the signed states. All who are willing to leave have limits to Russia or Russian exclusion of Kaliningrad and see themselves immediately threatened by Moscow.
