Caniggia, prosecuted for aggravated sexual abuse

Date:

Argentina’s former soccer player Claudio Caniggia, runner-up in the world in Italy in 1990, was prosecuted for the crime of “aggravated sexual abuse”, where he was accused by his ex-wife and mother of his children, Mariana Nannis, and this tuesday is urged to appear on his return to Buenos Aires from Spain.

The 56-year-old former striker was prosecuted with “temporary freedom” for a crime of aggravated sexual abuse against Nannis. The decision was adopted by the national criminal and correctional court 18, which was replaced by Judge Fabiana Palmaghini.

The decision also established Caniggia “must refrain from any kind of contact” with Nannis.

Despite the fact that the judge urged Caniggia to “inform and prove, more than five business days in advance when he has to return” from Argentine territory, the prosecution found the player traveling to Spain, where he left on June 17.

The jury Caniggia was banned from leaving Argentina for 90 days on Tuesday without express permission from the court and in the event that you wish to do so, you must notify it 15 business days in advance.

Also, he ordered him to appear the next business day upon his return to Argentina, on July 8.

Caniggia’s lawyer Fernando Burlando told EFE They will appeal to the prosecution.

In February 2020, Nannis reported that in 2018 her ex-husband raped her in a hotel room in Buenos Aires.

In March 2022, Caniggia was investigated for these facts. He denied the allegations and described the accusation of his ex-partner, to whom he was married for more than 33 years, as false.

“When I wanted to leave, he told me: ‘If you walk out that door, I’m going to kill you, you son of a bitch,'” said Nannis, who also claimed Caniggia hit her repeatedly.

Caniggia denied abusing, beating or threatening his ex-partner.
